Again, more information on Dure Foods many certifications for our valued clients and partners. You asked, we listen and we care!
Individual consumers, consumer advocate groups, and governments are demanding safe, quality food. In response to this demand, increasing numbers of retailers and food service providers are mandating that their suppliers receive third-party certification with a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) approved scheme.
The BRC Global Standard for Food Certification aims to:
- Promote best practices
- Improve supplier standards and consistency, and avoid product failure
- Eliminate multiple audits of food manufacturers
- Support retailer objectives at all levels of the manufacturing supply chain
- Provide concise information to assist with due diligence defense
If a supplier gains certification against the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety, it assures the customer that they are dealing with a company that reaches high levels of competence in all critical areas. They will know that their supplier is monitoring and continually improving their product quality, safety and legality, and that they have taken every possible precaution to prevent problems should there ever be a challenge made against a product. The certification audit report will be one of the documents an enforcement authority would require from a retailer or brand owner to demonstrate that their supplier was competent to produce a safe and legal product.
The BRC Standard meets the strong need to preserve the integrity of branded products. The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety is a single verification that ensures both the fulfillment of legal obligations and of customer protection.

What is GFSI
in General News/by Dure FoodsAt Dure Foods, we pride ourselves in being at the forefront of not only the latest technologies and efficencies but also being the best we can when it comes to safety and health initiatives. Many have asked, us what is GFSI and BRC certifications so we thought we would explain a little.
GFSI Overview
The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) is coordinated by The Food Business Forum CIES. This forum is a global food network made up of approximately 400 retailers and manufacturers worldwide.
Many large food processors, manufacturers and retailers are asking their suppliers to obtain a GFSI Recognized Certification. While GFSI does not certify and does not have a certification scheme itself, it does evaluate (benchmark) other food safety certification schemes to determine which ones meet their criteria and will be recognized by the organization.
If your organization needs to become certified to a recognized standard, evaluate the different schemes available to see which ones are applicable to your organization. You can do this quickly and easily at: GFSI Scopes of Recognition. Once you have identified which schemes include your business activity in the scope you will have your list of choices for certification.
Three of the GFSI Benchmarked Certification Schemes that are popular and well recognized in the United States as well as globally are: SQF, FSSC 22000 and BRC and any of these are a good choice.
